He writes a twice-monthly editorial page column that appears on Sundays to talk to readers about the newspaper and what's going on in the newsroom.

Mike Cherry came to FLORIDA TODAY in July 2005 and is covering high school sports. A Marshall University graduate, Cherry has spent 20 years as a sports reporter and arrived from the Charleston (W. Va.) Daily Mail. An Ohio native who grew up in New Jersey, he is the possessor of one of the ugliest serves in tennis. He writes a weekly high school sports column.
Robert Hughes Robert Hughes
Robert Hughes is likely to spend as much time outdoors as in the newsroom. There's hardly a stream he hasn't paddled in Florida, and he's hiked trails from Alaska to Bolivia, including the whole Appalachian Trail. The North Carolina native shares experiences he's had in the wild, including some that readers may seek and many they'll surely want to avoid.
Mark DeCotis on NASCAR Mark DeCotis on NASCAR
Mark DeCotis is a 30-year veteran of the newspaper business and has lived in Florida since 1985. He has been attending and covering NASCAR races at Daytona International Speedway since 1986 and also has covered races at Homestead and Atlanta. He was part of a team recognized by its peers for its coverage of the death of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt and for its preview of the 2004 NASCAR season.

John has covered the NFL in both Tennessee and Florida and has covered the NBA and Orlando Magic for Florida Today the last four seasons. A native of Milan, Tenn., Denton played football at the University of Tennessee-Martin. But it's basketball that has always been his first love. When not at a game he can usually be found playing pick-up basketball anywhere there's a game going on.

Carl Kotala covers the NFL, local colleges and baseball for Florida Today. He was born and raised in California and worked for the Marin Independent Journal for 13 years, after which he was honored with an induction into the Marin Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame. He enjoys traveling, movies, sports video games and spending time with his wife and dog.
Bill Sargent on Fishing and the Outdoors Bill Sargent
Bill Sargent is a life member of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association, twice serving as president of the state writers group, and he also is an active member of other writers organizations including the Outdoor Writers Association of America. Over the years, Sargent has won numerous state and national awards for his writing and photography. Sargent enjoys inshore, river and freshwater fishing with light tackle and fly fishing gear. He also likes to play a round of golf on occasion.

Norris Burkes' column takes a spiritual, often comical look at everyday life. He has served as a chaplain in the active duty and reserve Air Force. He came to the Space Coast in 1999 and finished his final active duty assignment at Patrick Air Force Base in March 2002. He is a husband and father of four.

Annette Clifford explores modern parenting. She was born in North Carolina, graduated from North Carolina State University and earned a masters degree in English from The College of William and Mary. She moved here from Baltimore. An accomplished journalist and author of travel books, Annette has also taught English at William and Mary, and Florida Institute of Technology.

Pam Harbaugh is the arts writer for Florida Today. She has lived in Brevard County since 1977. She studied theater in New York, and has a theater degree from University of Central Florida. Pam has worked in children's theater in New York City and Brevard for more than 25 years. She is the mother of two and lives in Satellite Beach. Her husband plays with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and teaches at Satellite High School and Brevard Community College.
